What real coolness was all about

From 1959 to 1967 The Dave Brubeck Quartet, Brubeck (keyboards), Desmond (sax), Wright (bass), and Morello (drums), clarified for me what real coolness was all about. Their music is clean, elegant, smooth, suave, debonair, and timeless, like a dry martini at midnight. At the same time they were hot, driving rhythms of 5/4, 7/4, and 13/4 turning the jazz scene upside down. They took complex patterns, sounds, and made them simple, flowing out as the texture of a new world sound. This quartet ignited our imaginations, senses, and was the score of life to all who wanted to be a part of the global community of cool.
