Mircea Cartarescu was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1956. He is one of the best-known contemporary poets in Romania and is especially noted for his love poetry.

Reality meets dream
Now I know that the sink in my kitchen is desperately devoted to a star, the queen of the beetles, shining over black linoleum. In Cartarescu's poetry reality meets dream, oniric visions are hidden in a mirror. I can expect everything from a writer who fell in love with a wonderful Dacia.
