Makes me want to take notice
Mute Records gave me the inspiration to broaden my horizons and sample a wider spectrum of musical styles. They dare to challenge your pre-concieved ideas of what a pop music label should do, releasing classic pop singles one day (Depeche Mode, enjoy the silence), and a double live CD of Throbbing Gristle noise experiments the next. They were at the forefront of marketing many different formats/remixes and yet while having this commercial sensibility they have maintained a roster of artists that ranges from country to punk, electronic abstact to f*&king noise. Thank-you Mute (and Daniel Miller), and may you long continue to produce music that makes me want to take notice.

The care taken ...
Founded to release a punk single made with a primitive synth (1978's "Warm Leatherette" by The Normal), Mute Records is today the home of Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Moby and a cast of innovative artists. Steered by label founder Daniel Miller since its founding, Mute's catalogue has grown too fast for most completists, but the quality of its recordings has remained consistently excellent. Some releases are more challenging than others, but the care taken in selecting artists and recordings makes the Mute logo - a modified Letraset architectural symbol - a symbol of quality and distinction. I love it.
