Ajax Amsterdam, AFC Ajax, or simply Ajax is a professional football club from Amsterdam, Netherlands. The club is historically one of the three clubs that dominate the Dutch national football league.

What AJAX is about
AJAX played last week against AC Milan in the Champions League in Amsterdam in the AJAX stadium. Clarence Seedorf, a former player of AJAX, is now for several years already with AC Milan. He played extremely well with AC Milan against AJAX, but still he received a well meant applause by the end of the match. This was a heart warming moment for me. AJAX is my team but when players leave AJAX to go play somewhere in Europe they alway will be a part of AJAX. It was like a son coming home. Or since I'm not that old, to me like a brother. Seedorf is a good example of what AJAX is about. Embracing young talent and give them the chance to be part of a great experience which inspires young children everywhere. Seedorf was the youngest player ever to make his debut in the first team of AJAX; 16 years! He was also a part of the unbeatable squad back in '95. The youngest team ever to win the triple ever (National Champion, Euro- and World Champion). Will they be able to repeat such stunt? I don't think so. But the love and joy they have given us is enough to cherish a lifetime. By the way, Greg didn't talk about the European Cup or World Cup for countries, but he was referring to the Champions League and World Cup for club teams. Back then only the club that ended first within its own competition, within it's own country, was allowed to participate in the Champions League the next season. So all number one's from Europe entered the Champions League. AJAX won this competition and was the best of Europe, often referred to as the European Cup. This same sort of competition was being held in South America. Gremio won over there. Each year there was one match in Tokyo between the winner of the Champions League and the winner of the South American equivalent. This was called the World Cup for club teams.

Unfortunately impossible
Greg gave some fascinating insights into his "Lovemark" for Ajax Football Club. What I found particularly interesting was the unbelievable feat of a team, average age 21, winning both the European and World Cups! As the European and World Cups are only open to international teams, and Ajax are a Dutch club team, this is unfortunately impossible.

'Sons of the gods'
AJAX, a soccer club in the Netherlands, has been my Lovemark for many years. Internationally only the great teams with strong and experienced players will achieve great success, but AJAX won the European and World Cup with the youngest team ever, average age only 21! No one understood how this was possible. They were referred to as 'sons of the gods'. The love that these youngsters showed for each other on the field and the will to fight for each other and the love they returned to their fans is inspiring for people all ages. Every body wants to be an AJAX player. When wearing their outfit you can all of a sudden play much better - it's magic. When one of the players gets hurt you too can feel it; when they score you join in their joy. If you're once an AJAX fan you always will be.
