JJ Abrams has made primetime fun again, and for that I love him beyond reason. With "Alias," Abrams revived the campy spy drama. Double agent Sydney Bristow kicks butt and angsts prettily; super-serious Jack Bristow, Sydney's father, gives "Alias" the hard edge that keeps it anchored, even with more plot twists and turns than a soap opera. JJ Abrams also created "Lost," another surreal mystery adventure. Abrams' group of intriguing, tortured characters play out their drama on a mysterious island with danger lurking behind every tree. It's just plain fun. Abrams manages to write drama that's not too heavy, humor that's intelligent, suspense that's addictive, and characters that draw me back into the show week after pre-empted week. I'll follow Abrams wherever he leads.
