  • I Love New Yorker

Because: It’s a belletrist safe-house for those craving word, wit and smart cultural commentary (and sometimes just shameless gossip because man is a social animal. Thanks Plato). The cartoons are like the best Woody Allen moments; student dorms everywhere owe Saul Steinberg for interiors. Its contents page actually means it. It takes itself seriously, but isn’t afraid to go fancy dress or be seen in glasses. The masthead and covers are like something from Gatsby, but like the Chrysler Building, still look cool and contemporary. It’s where strivers can get aphorism, criticism, witticism by osmosis. It’s what the anti-globalisation protestors MUST omit when bagging Americana. It’s got a permanent parking space on the magazine rack (Talk anyone?). It’s what you want to find under the coffee table while back-packing through Thailand or stuck in a hotel. It’s unquestionably NYC, but you wish this was YOUR local rag!

  • Feeds your brain and warms your heart

What's not to love about The New Yorker? This is the magazine that feeds your brain while it warms your heart. I have been reading the New Yorker for 25 years and still await each new copy with the same joy and anticipation. How do they do it? Don't like to admit it, but it could be that they know me just a little bit better than I know myself.
