What a wild concept
How many times can you say that a t.v. show, derived from a movie, ends up being superior to said movie. I came upon this show after it had already been on the air for a year or two and became hooked. How could all that stuff be going on in Sunnydale and people not figure it out? What a wild concept - a town built over a"Hellmouth", vampires, slayers, watchers and the scooby gang. Josh Wheldon and company made it all come to life.

Buffy rocks my world
Buffy rocks my world. I can watch it over and over again and still laugh, cry and be bamboozled by the intricate plot detail, witty dialogue and well-drawn characters. Nothing on tellie? Again, I get out the Buffy DVDs. I pity those that dismissed Buffy as horror, teen drama or whatever label they used to suggest it was 'beneath their intellect'. They have truly missing out.

I watched it religiously every week
Who would have thought that teen show about a pretty girl chosen to destroy the forces of evil would ever become legend. Not me! But I watched it religiously every week, along with millions of other fans. The show was so popular it had its own spin-off in Angel, and it was a big hit. That is very rare. Joss Whedon and his merry band of writers laced drama with comic wit and pop culture. I mean spidey-sense, come on...classic.

Head and shoulders above the rest
I think this show fully realizes the creator, Joss Whedon's, effort to create a hero story with a feminist bent - one in which the little blonde girl walking down the alley actually gets to kick some butt. When this show was on, it had an amazing fanbase worldwide, with a strong Internet presence. What makes Buffy stand head and shoulders above the rest are three things: consistently good, quality writing; characters you really care about; and the willingness to take chances as creators. For example, the episode "Hush" took away the characters' ability to speak for half the show; and "Once More With Feeling" was a musical! With singing! As for the passion piece, I've shown my Buffy pride by decoupaging a Buffy tray table, and I named my first cat Willow.

Took over my nightly life
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the only television series that ever took over my nightly life. I discovered it after it had already been on the air for three years and had assumed it was juvenille entertainment. It is so much more than that! I got caught up in it because I loved seeing a woman action hero taking charge. Week after week I got to see great action but more importantly I got to follow the story lines of several characters who were so well-written that they seemed like real people. The writing is also the most clever dialogue I've EVER heard on network television. I also appreciate the underlying message of self-sacrifice for one's community, family and friends. My husband was really glad when the series ended because I refused to do anything else on Tuesday nights for the run of the show!
