If these trunks could talk...
I am a returning Combat veteran from someplace overseas that no one knows and that no one will remember. One of the small pieces of home that I brought on my assignments was my bright orange Birdwells...They were a hit!!! The only problem was that I was FORBIDDEN from wearing them outside because they made such an outstanding target for insurgent activity. I have now had my BBB"s in the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Mexico, four of the Great Lakes and six of Saddams' Pools! Plus, they look and feel better than I do! That was in 1994. They were my second pair. Unfortunately, good military chow put me out of my original pair. But, if these trunks could talk...

Pretty much indestructible
They are the greatest. The guy who had to return his must have got an imitation because they are pretty much indestructible. A bit of trivia: I believe that they are the longest running advertiser in Surfer Magazine. I too remember wearing my canvas ones the whole summer long. They are the only trunks I still wear at 48. I can't get my kids to wear them. They like the loud and obnoxious ones that are so popular now. Each to his own. Last summer I had both hips replaced in LA, I had my friend pick me up 2 days later. The next morning we went to the Birdwell Factory with me on crutches. Very cool experience if you ever get the chance. They don't take walk-ins after 7AM so get there early.

Fine and just as expected
Outside of a few quality control issues, the shorts are fine and just as expected. I’ve only had to return them once to fix the drawstring and I’ve had to sew a button on...all of this in the first 2 weeks of owning the pair of shorts. The people at Birdwell are not customer service minded, so buyer beware. Overall, my feeling is they just made excuses about the quality issues and weren’t interested in keeping the customer happy.

You won't be disappointed
Birdwell Beach Britches. If you don't know about them, maybe (just maybe) you shoudn't wear them! They are that good! I grew up wearing Birdwells to the beach and all around town. I still have the first canvas (sun bleached) pair I purchased in the 60's. Although these days they are hard to fit into! You won't be disappointed when you purchase a pair!

They were the best trunks
I had a pair of these when I was growing up in so. cal around the surf scene of the 70s. They were the best trunks because they wouldn't get sucked off you when you wiped out hard.

One look at their site says it all
At 38, I find myself looking for a new pair so I can reconnect with my own youth. Next, I'll be searching for them for my own sons in hope of passing on the same strong connection. This is perhaps the last of the underground brands that never sold out, and has stayed successful (still in business) nonetheless. One look at their site says it all.

I'm still wearing them today.
It seems a lifetime ago, being 16 years old, surfing, riding skateboards in San Diego and Imperial Beach. Birdwell Beach Britches were the shorts to have and live in. I'm still wearing them today, though a little bigger at the waistline! They wear like iron and bring back a flood of happy memories. Quality is timeless and worth the cost.

An easy summer day, and the memory of youth
I grew up in them, these strange and unusual warm-weather shorts. Birdwell Beach Britches and a tee shirt were my teen-age uniform on those easy weekends there on the South Carolina coast. The original board shorts: since 1961. Grown under the California sun, and made for all who would even think about wanting to hit the waves. The smiling 'Birdie' logo, the drawstring fly, the shower curtain nylon material, the way they fade and fray and grow to the body they are on. There's nothing like a pair of Birdwell Beach Britches, or two, or three. Just as there's nothing like a good wave, an easy summer day, and the memory of youth.
